 Since I only had the Virtuoso for three months does not want to discuss the long-term quality. Because I use it mainly for pressure pot, drip and small espresso batches I was not trying to get a solid consumer grinder, as the more expensive Rancilio Rocky or Mazzer Mini.

I previously owned a Starbucks Barista (the Solis verson, not the newer Saeco Titan verson ) Capresso Infinity 560 and the Black. The Barista has had a long and happy life, and after performing the hack ( see coffeegeek.com ), with an excellent espresso and quite well. The Capresso coffee was excellent for printing & drop, but only enough for espresso. I would be happy to recommend each of these people who just want a cup of Joe pretty solid, and do not mind it a bit ' heated in the process. The Capresso was still firmly in the running, so do not infer that died early cheerfully grinds flax seeds to my wife very well now I just wanted something better for my shots espresso.

The Iolite still works, and the design of the pipe-stem has been changed so it DOESN'T break off anymore.

BTW, when I heard the problems with the plastic pipe-stem had been addressed, I e-mailed the company about the problems I'd had. They quickly mailed me two of the new ones: no charge. That shows a lot of class and consumer awareness. Kudos.

Two tips:

(1) It's important to use a high-quality, triple-filtered butane [Definitely Not Ronson's!!!!!]... otherwise the Iolite will spit, sputter... and occasionally won't ignite.

(2) Grinding down the herbs to a fine powder is a bad idea. Dust quickly clogs up the Iolite's heating chamber so it won't draw at all.

Summing up: based on THE IOLITE'S relative durability [compared to the other portable vaporizers I've tried]... and the fact that the company rather responsively recognized, addressed, and fixed the gizmo's major flaw
